Joe Thurston went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored as the St. Louis Cardinals edged the Boston Red Sox, 4-2, in Grapefruit League play.
Joe Mather hit a two-run home run while Rick Ankiel drove in the other run for the Cardinals. Chris Carpenter gave up just two hits and two walks in four innings of work.
Josh Reddick went 3-for-4 with an RBI while Josh Beckett was solid in the start as he was charged with just two hits and one walk in four innings of work for the Red Sox.
