The Boston Red Sox have secured a major arm in their rotation after signing left Jon Lester to a five-year, $30 million extension on Monday with a $13 million club option for 2014.
After fighting his way back from non-Hodgkins lymphoma during his rookie season in 2006 Lester, 25, made an impact in the Red Sox run to the World Series in 2007 and then put together a 16-6 record last year including a no-hitter at Fenway Park against the Kansas City Royals.
Lester will likely be the only left-hander in eth Red Sox rotation this year, a rotation that features Daisuke Matsuzaka, Josh Beckett and Brad Penny.
